What you'll learn in this food tours class:

Trace the history of pizza by visiting a mix of wood-fired Neapolitan, coal-fired, and classic New York slice joints on this 2.5 hour walking tour. You'll hit a spread of neighborhoods including Boerum Hill. Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn Heights, and the Columbia Waterfront district.

What's Included

All tours include pizza tastings, kitchen tours, in-depth pizza analysis, and everybody gets a take-home Pocket Pizza Journal to help track their tastings.

Weather & Attire

All tours run rain or shine. Tour itineraries are flexible enough that rain and snow won't cause a problem. Please remember to wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately, as we will be outside for most of the tour.

What To Bring?

We strongly recommend bringing a refillable container for water. We discourage the use of bottled water, as New York’s tap water is among the cleanest and tastiest in the country. You’ll also want to bring a camera, your love of adventure and an insatiable appetite.

Please also bring a face mask, as your guide may ask you to wear it while touring pizzeria kitchens.

Accessibility

  • This tour has some stops with 1-4 steps
  • Restrooms are available at most pizzerias

Refund Policy

  • Once purchased, tickets cannot be refunded and cannot be rescheduled because your space is being guaranteed at the event.
Activity takes place rain or shine:

  • The activity runs regardless of weather conditions. In the rare situation where the seller is forced to cancel the event, ticket-holders will be allowed to reschedule to another time (subject to availability).

Question from Lucy L.
Which pizzerias does the tour hit? Thanks!
Answer from Scott W. Verified Educator
Our guides have the freedom to curate their tours as they desire, whether it's due to pizza happenings, pizza science, crowd excitement, etc. so there are no set routes for any tours. However, the areas the pizzerias occur in, can help you see what possibilities there might be - 11:45AM Brooklyn Tour is in the Cobble Hill area, and the 5PM Brooklyn Tour is in Williamsburg. Many thanks!

We really enjoyed the Downtown Brooklyn Pizza Walk. As New Yorkers we were interested to see what pizza would be showcased and while the places we visited were serving delicious pizza, we were slightly disappointed that we did not get what we consider a real NY slice (triangle slice of pizza, sauce, and mozzarella that you have to pat with a napkin to soak up some of the grease). However, we visited 3 excellent places - one coal-fired, one wood-fired, and one serving Sicilian pizza and met new people from California and Washington. All of the pizzas were delicious and the discussions about the dough, sauce, and mozzarella were interesting. Definitely recommend if you are a pizza lover and would enjoy an afternoon strolling downtown Brooklyn and eating some tasty pizzas.

Dave was a phenomenal host. First and foremost, friendly and enthused. Super knowledgeable about pizza history, cooking techniques, ingredients, and differentiating the experience among 3 diff types of pizza - from Neapolitan to coal oven to more modern grandma/Sicilian. Highly recommend for the pizza enthusiastic!

We had a wonderful time. Krista was a terrific leader. She was cheerful, entertaining, informative and interactive with the group. She Remembered our names, and made sure to keep track of “who was with whom” or “ made new friends with whom”.
