What you'll learn in this beer brewing class:

Our intro classes are designed for the absolute novice brewer. They are a fantastic experience for anyone looking to develop a deeper understanding of beer, its ingredients, and the process by which it’s made in a friendly and savvy environment.

We teach in a concentrated format that focuses on a hands-on learning experience. Our teaching style is casual while also presenting a wealth of information. It is designed to provide our students the confidence, knowledge, and experience needed to become proficient home brewers and cultivated beer drinkers.

You will learn all the basics to get you up and running while brewing a batch of beer. You’ll learn about extract brewing, malts, grains, yeasts and how to avoid or troubleshoot the most common problems. All reference materials will be provided as well as a homebrew sample for tasting.

Q&A

Q: Is this class hands on?

A: Yes, students brew a 5-gallon batch of beer in the class so they get to see the whole process. Students learn all about the ingredients in beer (and even get to taste some) and it is a very informative class. Unfortunately, beer takes roughly 2 weeks to ferment so students won't be able to take beer home.

We will require that attendees provide a CDC issued COVID-19 vaccination card showing a fully-vaccinated status. There are no exceptions to this policy.

Refund Policy

We don’t issue refunds, but if you need to reschedule your class for any reason, you have up to 11 business days in advance to do so.

If you find yourself missing the deadline, try asking around and see if a friend can take your spot. You’ll get the refund and fill a perfectly good spot. Everybody wins!

Question from salim k.
Do we get to take the beer that we brewed home with us?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Salim! Unfortunately, beer takes roughly 2 weeks to ferment so students won't be able to take beer home. Thanks!
Answer from salim k.
That doesn't make much sense. Does it need to be fermented in certain conditions which would cause fermenting at home not to work? Does the brewery sell the students batches, why can't they be kept by the students?
Answer from Douglas A. Verified Educator
Salim, you can definitely brew/ferment beer at home (that's the point of the class!), it's just that we can't offer students the ability to take beer home with them as we are not a brewery, we're a homebrew supply shop and classroom space. We'll happily help you pick a batch of your own ingredients to brew with at home, after the class.

Very knowledgeable instructor, who had a good presentation and helped answer many "extra curricular" questions (around the malting process, mead vs. beer, etc.). Nice store as well, so if you're sold on brewing beer yourself you can stock up on your way out. No pressure at all to make sales, though - just very authentic enthusiasm.

The class was both pratical and informative. I learned a lot about the basics of home brewing beer and the instructor was definitely passionate and knowledgable about the subject. We got to taste a pint each of 2 different beers (An IPA and Saison) made in previously classes, and they tasted great. Make sure you have something in your stomach beforehand if you are a lightweight! This would be a great class to bring a date or partner to.

I bought this class as a gift for my husband, who is a huge beer lover, but had an unbelievably great time myself too. Lots of new knowledge, very positive vibe in a room, wonderful experience, and lots of beer to taste. We didn’t end up buying supplies and doing it at home, but it was a very enjoyable weekend activity which we were suggesting to friends afterward.

The course was super interesting and the instructor was great. We made our own brew and even tasted the previous class (brew) beer. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am interested in home brew.
