Getting started
What is CourseHorse?
CourseHorse is a marketplace for booking classes from local schools and instructors, in person and live online. Every class shows its dates, price, the school's policy and student reviews before you book.
Is CourseHorse a school?
No. Schools and instructors teach every class. Their name is on the class page and in your booking email.
Is CourseHorse in my city?
Classes are listed in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Nashville, Houston, Washington, D.C., San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, Denver, San Jose and Charlotte, and online. You can also search near any US ZIP code to find classes close to you.
Do I need an account to book?
No. You can book as a guest with your email. To manage the booking later, set a password for the same email and open My classes.
How do I create an account?
Choose Sign in at the top of any page, then sign up with your email or your Google account.
Why book with CourseHorse?
You pay the class price with nothing added at checkout, and you earn points on every booking. If your plans change, My classes shows your options, and our team is a chat away.
Finding a class
How do I search for classes?
Type what you want to learn in the search box at the top of any page. Then narrow the results with the filters, like location and date.
What kinds of classes are there?
Cooking, pottery, painting, drawing, jewelry, sewing, dance, photography, languages and more. Professional courses too, from public speaking to design software.
Are there online classes?
Yes. Online classes are live with an instructor, and some are self-paced. You can join from anywhere.
A class I like has no dates. What can I do?
Save it to your Wishlist with the heart. We email you when it has new dates or a deal.
How do I find a specific school?
Type the school's name in the search box. Its classes come up first.
About a class
Where do I see the dates and times?
On the class page. Every upcoming date is listed with its time, and you pick one when you book.
Where does the class meet?
The address is on the class page and in your booking email. If a class says TBD, the school sends the place before class.
Where is the cancellation policy?
On every class page, so you can read it before you book. Each school sets its own.
How many people will be in the class?
The class page shows the typical class size. Only the school knows exactly how many have booked.
Do I need to bring anything?
The class page says what to bring, if anything. After you book, My classes shows any details the school adds. You can message the school from there too.
Do I need my own computer for a tech class?
Most schools have computers for in-person tech classes. The class page says if you need your own laptop.
Is the materials cost included?
The class page says when materials cost extra or when you buy them yourself. Many schools sell what you need on site.
Can a cooking class meet my diet?
It depends on the school. Most follow a set menu. Ask us before you book and we'll check with the school.
Is my cooking class hands-on?
Most are. In many, students share the cooking, like a team in a real kitchen. The class page says when it's a demonstration.
Can I bring wine to my class?
Only when the class page says BYOB. Many cooking classes serve wine or sell it on site.
Is a couples class priced for two?
Most couples classes are priced per couple, and one booking gets two seats. The class page says so. Ask us if it doesn't.
Will I get a certificate?
Some classes give a certificate of completion, and the class page says so. These are usually not professional licenses. Exam costs are extra unless the page says they are included.
Can I see the menu or the curriculum?
The class page shows what the school shared. Cooking menus can change from date to date.
Booking and paying
How do I book a class?
Open the class, pick a date and the number of seats, and choose Book Now. You pay at checkout and get a booking email right away.
Does it cost extra to book through CourseHorse?
No. You pay the class price, with nothing added at checkout.
How can I pay?
With a credit or debit card at checkout. You can also use a gift card, a promo code, your points and any CourseHorse credit you have.
Can I use a promo code and a gift card together?
Yes. Enter both at checkout. Only one promo code works on a booking.
Can I pay in installments?
No. You pay for the class when you book. A few schools offer their own payment plans, and their class pages say so.
Is there financial aid?
CourseHorse doesn't offer financial aid. Watch our emails for promotions.
Can I book for someone else?
Yes. Add their name and email for their seat at checkout, and they get their own class emails. You can also give a gift card and let them choose.
When is my booking confirmed?
You get a booking email right away. The school confirms your seat, usually within 24 hours.
Checkout isn't working. What should I check?
Check the card number, the date and the security code (four digits on the front for Amex). Check any codes you typed. If your bank declines the card, try another one. Still stuck? Chat with us.
After you book
Where do I see my booking?
In My classes. Booked as a guest? Set a password for the email you booked with, using Forgot your password, then sign in.
Do I need to print my confirmation?
No. Give your name at check-in and say you booked on CourseHorse.
When should I arrive?
About 15 minutes early, so you have time to find the room.
How do I find the classroom?
The address is in your booking email. For colleges and outdoor classes, the school sends the exact spot before class. No word two days before? Message the school from My classes.
Where is the link for my online class?
Open the booking in My classes. Choose Join the class online when it's there. If the school sends the link itself and it hasn't come, choose Didn't get it? and we'll chase it.
Can I add my class to my calendar?
Yes. Choose Add to calendar on the booking in My classes.
Can I make up a session I missed?
It depends on the school. Message the school from My classes to ask. For short classes, schools may not let you in if you arrive late.
Changing or cancelling
What if I can't make my class?
Open the booking in My classes and choose Change or cancel. You see the options the school's policy gives you right now, like moving to another date or keeping the value as CourseHorse credit.
How do I move to another date?
Choose Change or cancel on the booking, then pick a new date. If it costs more, you pay the difference. If it costs less, the difference stays with you as CourseHorse credit.
What happens if the school cancels my class?
You keep the full value of your booking as CourseHorse credit, and we email you your options. Pick another date, another class from the same school or any class on CourseHorse.
Where do I see my CourseHorse credit?
In your Wallet. Credit comes off your next booking automatically at checkout.
My situation isn't covered by the options. What now?
Chat with us or email [email protected]. One message is enough. We reply by email.
Points
How do points work?
You earn 10% back in points on every class you book, and 15% back on gift cards you buy. 100 points = $1. Once your points add up to $5.00 or more, they come off your next booking automatically at checkout.
Where do I see my points?
In your Wallet, next to your CourseHorse credit.
Gift cards
How do I buy a gift card?
On the gift card page. Choose any amount from $5, add a message and pick the day it arrives. We email it to you, with a card you can print, or straight to them.
How do I use a gift card?
Book any class on CourseHorse and enter the code at checkout.
Can I use one gift card for several classes?
Yes. What you don't spend stays on the same code for next time.
How do I check what's left on a gift card?
Your Wallet shows your gift cards and what's left on each.
How long can I use a gift card?
As long as you like. There's no deadline.
Can I combine gift cards?
Yes, for gift cards bought at the regular price. Send us the codes and we'll send you one new card within two business days.
Can I use a promo code to buy a gift card?
No. We sometimes run gift card offers instead. Watch our emails for them.
Group and private events
Can I book a private event or a team event?
Yes. CourseHorse Groups has team building, private parties and lunch and learns, in person and online.
How much does a group event cost?
It depends on the activity, the group size, the place and the day. Each event on CourseHorse Groups shows its price, and you can ask for a quote.
Your account and getting help
I forgot my password.
Use Forgot your password and we email you a link to set a new one. Signed up with Google? Sign in with Google instead.
How do I reach CourseHorse?
Chat with us any time, or email [email protected]. For a class starting soon, your booking email has the school's contact details.
Can I call CourseHorse?
We don't have a phone line. Chat and email let us answer every message, usually faster than a call.
