Richard Caliban

Teaches at Gotham Writers Workshop

Richard Caliban was artistic director of Cucaracha Theater in New York where he produced numerous new works and directed many of his own plays. He directed his play Homo Sapien Shuffle at the Public Theatre, and his work as a playwright and director has been seen widely in New York and abroad. His play Rodents & Radios is published in From the Other Side of the Century II: A New American Drama 1960-1995 (Sun & Moon Press), and his play Gladiator is published in Act One Festival '95 (Smith and Kraus). He wrote the screenplay adaptation to Will Scheffer's play, Easter, and directed the feature film. He has taught at NYU, The City College of New York, C.W. Post College, Hunter College, and the National Theater Conservatory. He holds a BA from Bard College and attended the Yale School of Drama and the New York Film Academy.

I didn't really get anything out of this class, but it may also be my learning style. The professor was very interactive. I just felt as if it were better suited to a class on screenplays or stage writing than prose.
