Chris Q. Murphy

Teaches at The Jalopy Theatre and School of Music

Cobbling together years of experience as a performer and educator in the worlds of country, folk, rock, jazz, and classical music, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Chris Q. Murphy is veritable chameleon. He holds both a Bachelors and a Masters degree from some fancy music conservatories but hardly lets that get in the way of his continual immersive study of American popular and folk music (all of it). Whether playing original tunes with his own band, Chris Q. Murphy & the Fiendish Thingies, tackling traditional repertoire with The Whistling Wolves, leading the popular South Slope Singalong series, or teaching music at M.S. 821 in Sunset Park, he’s always on the prowl to bring worlds together under the banner of building community through music making. He, his wife, and his baby son live, work, and play in Brooklyn.
