Question from Hillary
Hi, does this class deal with reconciliation? I work for a very small company and am in charge of the books but have had no formal training. QBO, chart of accounts, vendors etc. is all set up. I am mainly concerned with fixing errors, learning how to properly enter all transactions and being able to reconcile correctly. Does this class cover those topics (especially reconciliation)? Thank you!
Answer from Jenn C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi! Unfortunately, reconciliation isn't one of the major topics for this course, but it is helpful for those who would like to learn how to create an efficient filing system to track your finance, difference between an income statement and balance sheet, the different types of company formations, how transactions are recorded in a double entry bookkeeping system and what exactly are debits and credits, among many others.
Answer from Anonymous
I think this course has to include reconciliation. When you're balancing the checkbook you need to reconcile in order to ensure it's balanced. It seems that reconciliation, although not specifically mentioned, will be taught as there is a course topic on balancing the checkbook.

Bookkeeping Basics

It was not a great class. Rapheal rushed through the material, and didn't explain the principals behind the exercises. He really didn't teach - he just read from a power point and rushed through the answers. He would solicit the room for "questions", but if you had one, you were made to feel like you were being disruptive by stopping the flow of the class to bother him with a question. You also were not given any practice materials, worksheets to work along with him during the class which was really unfortunate. His idea of a practice exercise was to put a student on the spot in front of the class to work through a practice exam question which puts a lot of pressure on students and doesn't really provide any real teaching (just other students yelling out answers). I'm glad I got the chapters of the book via an email with the working papers after the 1st class, because I didn't want to waste my time with the remaining classes. This class is a waste of money / investment. He prides himself in being able to teach bookeeping in a shorter time than most colleges, but he doesn't fully execute any of the concepts or actually teach. Definitely don't recommend TIA to anyone and definitely don't recommend Bookeeping Basics there (Rapheal is the only one that teaches this class).

This was a beginner's basic class. But the rest to the class had degrees in accounting. He catered the them because it seemed it was easier for him to explain. We had no material to study from, so that set me back further. There was no computer for us to practice on our own since he was going over excel, I figured we can do as we learn. We had to take turns to use his computer. He ranted on how Americans are lazy and how Americans treat immigrants. I was the only American in the class that was actually born here, and he kept insisting I was not a real American. Maybe because I was not White American. I don't know. Another thing, he let us go home three hours early. I felt we could have used those three hours to study the material we went over. It was a three-day course, you would think he would let us study more in class, especially since we did not have material to take home. Basically I wasted my money.

I learned a lot from this class. Overall this is a great class. A problem is that the teacher is not native English speaker and he has an accent. Since I am not a native speaker, I had a slight difficulty to understand his English. .

The class was over 3 hour before 6. The teacher didn’t answer the questions and if he did it he did it after laugh a little bit and when I asked him something for first time and he didn’t I asked him why? He said that if I wanted him to answer I should pay HIM particularly. ??????? Such a expensive course. And actually I traveled 2 hours every sunday to can make it to receive that answer. Disrespectful and very arrogant
