Our classes are different in every aspect. Every single lesson being taught in Sishu Mandarin (私塾中文) is a collective effort made by our ingenious teachers. Our teachers are all trained by our academic supervisors and mentored by our veteran teachers. And, we meet regularly to advance ourselves professionally.
We’ve also set a high bar for ourselves and strived to provide the highest quality of teaching since the very first day. We do not limit ourselves to teaching textbooks. We always try to tailor our classes according to our students’ learning needs. No matter if you’re a heritage Chinese speaker or someone who’s new to the language, you will find our classes the most comfortable to sit in.
What is special about your one-on-one instruction?
All our private classes will be set at your pace of learning. Our teacher will help you find the most comfortable learning pace. You will get the maximum language input and output in the classroom since you will be the center of our instruction, and all lessons will be modified according to your unique learning style and needs.
How will I be assessed?
You will get big and small assessments along with your Chinese learning journey with us. The big assessments are summative, such as baseline assessments or end-of-unit assessments.
The small assessments are the formative ones that will be carried out in every single lesson of yours. The teacher can figure out if you’ve mastered a grammar point by simply having a quick conversation with you. We also use HSK as a benchmark for assessing our students’ level of proficiency.
What Chinese textbook will I use?
We have a couple of our favored Chinese textbooks, and we use them all. Very often, we don’t rush to the textbook because we want to get a better understanding of what our students want and need before deciding which textbook they need to use.
