Sock Knitting

Learn to knit socks! If you've mastered knitting basics and are looking to tackle more complex projects, this workshop is for you!

In this three-part workshop, we'll work through the Shorty Sock by Summer Lee Design Co. (the Basic B version).

You will learn how to:

• Use the magic loop knitting technique 
• Make a heel flap and turn the heel
• Pick up stitches 
• Shape with decreases
• Knit the kitchner Stitch
• Follow a sock pattern

Due to the slow nature of knitting, you likely will not finish the sock during class hours. However, we will cover all of the trickiest parts, and you'll be well-prepared to finish on your own!

SKILL REQUIREMENTS: This is an intermediate level knitting workshop. You must have the following knitting skills in order to register:

• Casting on
• Binding off 
• Knitting in the round
• Ribbing (knitting and purling)
• Not required but helpful: Some experience with shaping using decreases (k2 tgth and SSK)

Materials + Tools Required

• Shorty Sock Pattern -- Purchase the PDF here! Please bring a printed copy to class. We will be following the Basic B version.
• 1 skein of Sock yarn (or 2 if you'd like to do stripes or a contrasting heel/toe!)
• 40" Circular Knitting Needles - Size 0 or 1 - Chiaogoo Red Lace Stainless Steel needles are strongly recommended!
• Small Stitch Markers
• Small tapestry needle
• If opting to knit two socks at a time, you will also need Size 1 double pointed knitting needles
• Optional but recommended for use after class: Sock blockers and soak or other gentle detergent
