What makes this Course Unique is that is is taught by an artist who has experience teaching both sculptors and welders. She is a Part-Time Associate Professor at Parsons School of Design, teaching Metal Fabrication. This class is an empowering experience for both beginners as well as people who have experienced welding in the past. The class is also unique because it will be "limited to 2 people". You will receive individual help. The Studio has a wall of open windows for excellent ventilation.
In this two-hour session you will become familiar with using a TIG machine. The focus will be technique. We will cover how to choose the right tungsten for the job, set the gauge, use the foot pedal, and weld. We will discuss the many advantages of TIG welding when setting up a shop. Tig welding is a popular method used in bicycle frames and motorcycles.
It is recommended that you take Gas or Mig first before taking this course.
WHAT TO WEAR: Wear closed toe leather or suede shoes and cotton socks. Do not wear clothes you care about. Cotton jeans are best. Bring a long sleeved sweat shirt and wear a long sleeved cotton shirt. Welding gear and gloves are supplied and included with session. There is no fee for metal.
