What you'll learn in this food tours class:

Discover and indulge yourself (while purchasing memorable Valentine's Day gifts!) at four Los Angeles chocolate confectioneries. Led by choco-holic John Powers, you will begin your day at landmark Edelweiss Chocolates known for its vintage equipment, much of which dates back to 1942 when the shop first opened. Their enrobing machine, which is still in use, famously inspired the I Love Lucy chocolate-making conveyer belt fiasco. Here, every step of the chocolate making process is done on site. Next, we will discover the delights of both and Sons and Teucher Chocolatiers, which face-off in daily chocolate competition across Brighton Way. Time permitting, we will also explore the Hungarian chocolate tradition at K Chocolatier where Diane Kron brings her family tradition to the U.S. with rice chocolate bars, rum truffles, and much more.

Next, tour Letterpress Chocolate, one of only three bean-to-bar manufacturers in the city – that is, chocolatiers who process their own cocoa beans. Finally, if there can be a finally with chocolate, time permitting, we will indulge at the mothership of See’s Candies stores on La Cienega Boulevard. Itinerary subject to change. The factory tours require attendees to wear closed-toe shoes; and not to wear perfume, colognes or heavy-scented lotions/oils, or you may be refused admission.

Excursion fee includes factory tour and tasting fees.

Depart:  El Camino College lot J (in front of the Marsee auditorium) @ 9:00AM, Return: 4:00PM.

Question from Sheri D.
Do you tour each of the businesses?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
The extensive behind-the-scene tour will be at Edelweiss Chocolate. This will be approximately 30 minutes and will include samples. The other locations do not include a tour (as the product is made elsewhere with the exception of Letterpress Chocolate, which will include samples). K Chocolatier, Beverly Hills Teuscher, and andSons Chocolatiers will not include samples (but will have an informed salesperson to talk about the product). The tour guide has decided to leave off See's Candy since it will take the time that is better spent in Beverly Hills.
