As you look for support in confidence-building as a parent, you’ll find in-person and online classes a rich resource for connecting with experts in the field to learn what you need to know. If you’re brand new to the parenting game, you’ll find a wide range of childbirth and infant care classes to pave your way. And further into your parenting career, you can enjoy classes on topics as broad as mindful parenting or as specific as how to bake cupcakes with your kids.

Why You Should Learn Parenting in Los Angeles

LA is one of the most exciting cities in the world for raising a child. The city is rich in enrichment opportunities such as museums, libraries, parks, and cultural centers, making it easy for parents to expose their children to diverse spaces and ideas. Educational and entertainment events offer endless opportunities to create memories with your children in LA and to explore the world without ever leaving the city.

When it comes to workplace protections, child care assistance, and income, California is the best state for single parents to raise their children, according to LendingTree. Whether you’re traveling the parenting journey alone or with a partner, these factors can make a huge difference in your ability to be present for your child. In-person and online parenting classes are an excellent addition to this pool of resources, as they connect you with expert instructors in the parenting skills that interest you most. With a real human mentor by your side, you can increase your confidence and peace of mind through your child-rearing years.

In-Person Parenting Classes in Los Angeles

Wherever you are in your child-rearing journey, you’ll find an in-person parenting class in LA to support and guide you. You can learn topics as broad as mindful parenting, as specific as online safety, or even explore parent-and-child movement together in classes, courses, and workshops throughout Greater Los Angeles and surrounding regions.

If you’re interested in holistic learning to promote self-growth, self-healing, and self-empowerment, the schedule of classes and events at the School of Multidimensional Healing Arts and Scientists will keep you and your family busy. The Irvine school provides an atmosphere of community to foster connections with friends on similar healing journeys.

Tina Louise Balodi teaches her trademarked Prana Boost Parenting Method in the School of Multidimensional Healing’s Mindful Parenting Workshop. In this class, Tina leads you through the tools and approaches she’s used with her two children to create shame-free intergenerational connections defined by unconditional love. You’ll learn how to establish clear boundaries by forgoing punishment and manipulation in favor of parenting tactics guided by intuition and emotional intelligence.

Renee Carleson’s Wild Child Sensory Play: Arts and Crafts is a very different class you may enjoy at the School of Multidimensional Healing. The small size of this workshop allows for plenty of connection with your child and other families as Renee invites children of all ages and their parents to create sensory crafts together.

Some parenting classes are all fun and games, while others are opportunities to learn lifesaving skills. SureFire CPR’s CPR and AED Renewal class is for parents, caregivers, and teachers who have or have had CPR and AED certification in the past but wish to brush up on their skills and renew their certification for two years. The class is offered in SureFire CPR’s Orange County location alongside many other core training classes for both healthcare professionals and laypeople.

LA parents will want to keep an eye on the calendar of classes offered by Los Angeles City College’s Community Services at their Downtown campus. Their workshops and courses cover a broad range of topics, including life skills, career and technical education, and recreational activities. Parents of older children and teens will enjoy the LACC class, Online Safety- What Parents Need to Know, as a resource to help keep their children safe when using the internet. Internet safety expert Dawn Wilson will teach you how to know what your children are doing online and what spaces pose the greatest risks.

Parenting classes offer many options for connecting to your child through movement and exercise. Los Angeles City College’s Kinder Gym is an exercise class for kids ages two to four and their parents. Led by martial arts expert and Hollywood stunt person Jojo Aguilar, Kinder Gym features five weekly hour-long sessions full of play and movement. Your child will develop coordination and confidence while building their strength through songs, games, and motor skill activities.

Liberate Hollywood is a holistic healing center and retail shop featuring heart-centered services to facilitate personal transformation. Movement & Intuition for Kids with Heather is offered in their Liberate Yourself location in Sherman Oaks, while their sister business, Liberate Emporium, operates in Los Feliz. Both sites boast a range of services to assist with personal growth and energetic healing. Heather’s Movement & Intuition class welcomes kids of all ages and their parents to explore the connection between each other, their bodies, and their intuition in this unique free-flowing class.

Virtual Parenting Classes

For those occasions when you can’t find the perfect in-person parenting class to fit your schedule, location, and budget, online parenting classes open the door to many more options. They offer many of the same benefits of in-person classes but with the additional benefits of reduced germ exposure, no commute, and connecting with a live instructor from the comfort of your home.

Many will still prefer in-person classes to physically interact with an expert in the skill they are learning, especially when it comes to breathing techniques for childbirth or lifesaving skills like infant CPR. And in-person classes are more likely to provide any materials for the course you may need, while you are more likely to have to purchase these for a virtual class. But these will likely be books and supplies you’ll want to own anyway and are unlikely to be a significant expense.

Becoming Parents: What You Really Need to Know is an aptly named class designed with the busiest expectant parents in mind. Hosted by the renowned NYC cultural and community center, 92nd Street Y, this class welcomes you to bring a partner or friend for the price of one ticket. You’ll learn about the normal range of newborn sleep patterns, temperaments, and behaviors, as well as how to prepare for inevitable changes in your family dynamics and schedule after your baby is born.

Infant Sleep Live Seminar is the go-to course for smart parents-to-be who want to ensure everyone gets enough rest during the fourth trimester. An experienced Pediatric Sleep Consultant leads this course from the childbirth education center Birth Day Presence’s home in NYC. You will receive guidance on preparing your baby’s sleep environment and the range of healthy newborn sleeping patterns you may encounter. You will learn how to maximize sleep for the entire household through your baby’s first few months and have an opportunity to get answers to all your big sleep questions.
