Description

The BCC was created in 2018 by Philip Markle and Annie Donley, former directors of the infamous Annoyance Theatre NY, with a mission to produce theater that financially rewards artists, fosters and encourages risk-taking and new talent, and inspires students to approach performance from a place of joy.

The BCC fosters and promotes the Brooklyn comedy community by creating a welcoming space for artistic experimentation. We produce shows with a strong point of view and sense of self. We believe in supporting and rewarding artistic producers, most notably through our policy that Producers at BCC earn a significant percentage of the box office (50% of box after the first $55 in ticket sales).

We are pairing this theater program with an original improvisation curriculum designed around three core concepts: first to empower each individual performer to find his or her unique voice and own it with confidence onstage. Second, to pair that specific, personal feedback with an ensemble-minded focus in adding your distinct voice to the group. Lastly, we give each the student the tools and practices to go from the classroom to performing professionally -- by embracing what you and only you can do onstage.
