Meditative Writing

Meditative Writing offers small, deeply personalized workshops led by Jess Hinds—mentor to writers behind shows like Game of Thrones, Mad Men, and SNL. Blending emotional insight with professional-level craft, these classes help writers overcome creative blocks, refine their voice, and build lasting, career-level storytelling tools.

About Meditative Writing

Meditative Writing creator Jess Hinds has mentored writers working on dozens of shows including MINDHUNTER, WEST WORLD, MAD MEN, LEVERAGE, CONSTANTINE, BROAD CITY, SNL, THE GOLDBERGS, BLUE BLOODS, GAME OF THRONES, XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS, OCTOBER FACTION, WATCHMEN, HIGH MAINTENANCE and more. Not to mention filmmakers who have seen their work place or win at Sundance, Austin Film Festival, Nicholl's Fellowship, Humanitas, as well as be nominated at the Emmys, the Oscars, and the Tonys. We keep our average class size around 6-8 writers to ensure personal attention and optimum participation. We heavily curate feedback (if the class involves feedback) so you never will get annoying ego-driven notes from other writers. Jess is very enthusiastic and fantastic at meeting you where you are at before helping you move forward. So you won't need to worry about someone intimidating you or going off on an unhelpful lecture. But she will likely make some bad dad-jokes and puns. If you want to work with someone who truly cares about the voices of new artists, is passionate and madly in love with the art of teaching, and dedicated the psychology of the writer, the character, the reader, the producer, and the audience... we think you'll enjoy these workshops. "Do this, it will make you feel less afraid and like you can work again. Jess has gotten me through some very severe, severe blocks. So these tools are valuable throughout your entire career. they are professional tools. " - Carly Wray, MADMEN, MINDHUNTER, WESTWORLD

This class was so much fun - even if you don't want to write the next big screen play. I learned more about myself than I did with my last therapist :-) Jess is amazing and so much fun!!!

What a remarkable instructor/mentor/coach/cheerleader is Jessica Hinds. Her passion for writing and the enthusiasm she brings to her class is infectious. I am new to screenwriting but have written extensively in other genres, (primarily plays). This class has saved me many hours (and dollars) learning about how to go about this form of creative writing. More importantly, she imparts an irresistible desire to write, I've churned out more pages this month than in the previous year. Thank you Jess, I look forward to taking another class from you soon.

It was cancelled. The first class was fine but in the second recording, it didn't really feel like the information progressed. The last two classes (half of the course) were cancelled so I’m inclined to ask for a refund. I honestly didn’t receive an opportunity to further my writing or learn the advertised technique. What I did take away from the class is that’s its really led to help fiction writers and I didn’t think that was clearly expressed in the description. But people may want to know that before signing up if they are working in another direction. Overall, just disappointed the whole thing slipped through the cracks.
