The cooking classes in in this school offer a unique experience of learning in a working restaurant kitchen. (If there’s a sudden rush, students stand back!) There are also tours in various New York City neighborhoods—Chinatown Shop and Cook is a perennially sold-out favorite. In another popular cooking class, One Night Stand, the student/chef works with Abby to plan, cook and serve family and friends a meal at the restaurant.

Abigail's class was great, my son and I learned a lot, and the food was delicious as an experience, 5/5 stars. However, I was disappointed that we never received the promised email that she said would include the recipes from that day. We were looking forward to making all the delicious meals! Otherwise, would recommend, but maybe take notes during class since you wont get them after!

Abigail was excellent! She was informative and interactive. Shopping for seafood, especially in chinatown is intimidating. I never used to think much about where my seafood comes from and how it's prepared prior to buying. I feel alot more confident and excited to start eating seafood more!!
  • Shop & Cook: Chinatown for Fish

    Anonymous review on 2/23/2020
The instructor was very kind and knowledgable but I was a little disappointed we didn't actually get to do a lot of the cooking. We learned how to filet a fish (and do one ourselves) which I very much enjoyed but was hoping to do the cooking. Instead, we all watched the fish being cooked different ways. Very nice teacher but not exactly what I was expecting.

  • Vietnamese Menu: Spotlight on Pho

    Anonymous review on 2/1/2020
Overall, instructor was knowledgable, but unhelpful at key points. Class was disorganized and food was ok. Read on for specifics. Pros: - Instructor was charismatic, knowledgable, and passionate about creating good food with good ingredients. - The knowledge of ingredients and techniques of making pho seemed in depth and pointed when presented by the instructor. - Spoke highly and in detail of local Vietnamese grocery stores in China town for acquiring specific ingredients Cons: - Class was disorganized. Ingredients and utensils were still being brought out after the designated start time. - Instructor's assistant was distracted and forgot to include specific ingredients within summer roles which caused many of them to lack those ingredients. - Instructor started describing how to make dumplings. Did not provide clear instruction. Left the table and simply handed two guests the recipe to follow without instruction. They were then left to figure out how to make the dumplings on their own. This could have been done at home and was not appropriate for a class setting. The instructor should work with their guests with the assumption they do not know how to create the dish as this is why they paid for the class. -When asked what the instructor's favorite pho place was in the city, the answer was they did not have one and that their pho was the best pho. This was unappreciated to say that there was not one restaurant in the city, who specialize in pho and Vietnamese cuisine, was any good. They could not mention at least one good place to try which was off putting. -After dessert and natural discussions around the table subsided past the 8:30pm class end, there was no send off or close from the instructor. People just simply got up in silence and said good bye which prompted the instructor to then start saying good bye.
