Juan Garrido

Teaches at Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art

Juan Garrido currently works as a Background Painter and Matte Painter for the animation industry with several years experience. He graduated from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena with a BA in Illustration in 2010 with a focus in the Entertainment Arts track. After graduation Juan was an intern at Pixar Studios in their Matte paint dept. Having returned from this internship inspired from his experiences he set out to work in Animation for TV and Web. Clients include Warner Brothers, Nickelodeon, and Starburns Industries, BLT Communications, and Thinkwell Group.

Although the demands of the modern artistic workplace require one to work digitally, it is the artists’ belief that success still lies in the extensive practice of traditional media. When he isn’t working on the computer, you will find him hiking the beautiful hills of Pasadena or on the California coast painting Plein Air landscape paintings. He is tremendously inspired by the Impressionist painting movement for their sense of color and light. Primarily by the works of Sargent, Monet, and even some contemporaries Richard Schmid and Kevin Macpherson.
