What you'll learn in this notary training:

Sign up for this intensive one-day seminar designed to equip you with everything you need to know to become an effective Notary. Find out about the laws that all California Notaries are required to know, as well as what you need to know to pass the State exam (required to be taken every 4 years), identify document signers, keep a journal, fill out certificates, and avoid lawsuits. Seminar includes a practice Notary Public Exam.

Start your own business, become a more valuable employee, provide customer service for your business or organization, earn additional income, or get recommissioned as a Notary Public!

No admittance to seminar after 8:30 a.m. and you must be on time when returning to the classroom from a break, due to State regulations. If you wish, you can register and take the State exam immediately after completing the seminar.

To take the exam, you must be at least 18 years old, have NO felonies on your record, and present:
  • a check made payable to the Secretary of State in the amount of $40 (for new applicants and renewals);
  • a current driver’s license with photo, state-issued ID card, or other appropriate photo ID;
  • a 2”x2” color passport photo; and
  • two sharpened #2 pencils.
Please Note: Upon passing the exam, you are required to submit Live Scan fingerprints (details will be provided at the seminar).

Exam registration takes place from 4:15pm to 5pm. The exam will be from 5pm to 6pm. Exam seating limited—seats will be assigned to those registered first.

This class has a $35 materials fee that will be collected at the beginning of class.

Question from Melissa M.
Is $35 material fee included in the total package?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! The $35 is on top of the $99 class fee. You shall pay the $35 to the instructor on the first day of the class. Hope this helps!
Question from Anonymous
Why do we need fingerprints?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! The fingerprinting is required by the state of California. You may check the California Notary website for more information. Thanks!
Question from Heidy H.
What if you fail the test?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Heidy! The students can take the exam as many times as they'd like, but only one exam per calendar month is allowed. For example, if they fail in May, they have to wait until June to retake. Hope this helps.
Question from Tara F.
Hello, do we earn certifications when we’re done with the class?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi, Tara. No, the notary class is to prepare the students to take the exam to become a notary. When the student finishes the course, they are taking the exam right there, and when they pass the exam, they are qualified to become a notary, and that itself sort of implies that one has completed the course. Hope this helps!
Question from Anonymous
Will there be someone there to take the 2x2 photo?
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hey, unfortunately, there's no one to take a 2x2 photo there. You have to bring your own 2x2 photo.

While the teacher was friendly and approachable - the class consisted of reading each page out of the manual that was given the morning of the class. There was very little time for review of any highlighted or noted facts/figures. I felt completely unprepared going into the test. I feel that in the future the materials should be given to the students prior to the class, so they can spend class time going over what they couldn't understand.

i think going to class to have the instructor just read word for word through an 80 page manual/book is not really helpful. i did not feel prepared for the test and believe if i could have just had 2-3 hours on my own to go over the book myself and then maybe an hour or two with the instructor to go over any questions, etc then i would have felt more accomplished than sitting in a classroom listening to an instructor read to me.
