Richard Stromberg taught photography classes at the legendary Jane Addams Center/Hull House at Belmont & Broadway for 33 years. In 2001, Hull House sold the Center, so Richard, with a cadre of students and volunteers, started the Chicago Photography Center on Lincoln Avenue. Richard and his merry band built the Center – quite literally.
Together, and under Richard's leadership, they designed and built out the space and opened for business in 2003, with Richard as program director and lead instructor.

A great intro to camera/photography class. It’s a great peek into the class series they offer.

This was a wonderful intro class. The instructor was friendly, interesting, and did a really good job of getting the class started on the basics.

I was incredibly surprised by how much information I walked away with after only 90 minutes. You could tell that Nick really cared about the class & was adamant about us taking something away from it. His passion for photography was apparent which made the class very enjoyable. There were multiple times my friend & I looked at each-other and laughed because something we had been trying to learn on our own finally clicked. I'm definitely debating taking the full 7-week session & have told all my friends they should check it out.

This was a great 90 min intro to photography; I was really surprised by the range of information they were able to cover off on in 90 min. They covered the basics such as perspective, shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. I'd say you leave this workshop ready to start experimenting with your camera outside of auto mode.
The only downside is that the workshop got me really jazzed to take more photography classes at the school, but their full sessions are quite expensive... understandable as photography is a very expensive hobby, but still a bummer that I won't be able to take more classes just yet.
Otherwise a really concise, 90 min Photography 101. Highly recommend :)

Nick Sinnott is a wonderful teacher and anyone that takes even the trail course will benefit (if they're a beginner). The facilities are nice and are conducive to learning. I highly recommend doing the trial if you want to find a good photography class. My husband and I both have signed up for the course.
Students who have taken classes at Chicago Photography Classes have expressed high praise for the quality and substance of the courses. Many students found the introductory class to be a great starting point and were impressed by the amount of information covered in just 90 minutes. The instructor was described as friendly, interesting, and engaging, and students appreciated his passion for photography. The class successfully covered important concepts such as perspective, shutter speed, aperture, and ISO, and left students feeling confident to experiment with their cameras outside of auto mode. Although some students were disappointed by the cost of the full sessions, they still highly recommended the introductory class and expressed a desire to continue their photography education.
