Description

This is a part-time bootcamp PREP program designed to teach you the fundamentals and get you into a top immersive bootcamp. Thanks to our partnerships with 9+ bootcamps, this program is in some cases completely free!

In just 4 weeks, you will be ready to pass coding challenges at the most selective bootcamps. Our graduates have been admitted to App Academy, Hack Reactor, Learners Guild, Rithm School, Galvanize, Berkeley's extension program, Flatiron School, General Assembly, and more great programs.

Classes are in-person or online and capped at just 12 students with a 5:1 or better ratio of students to teachers. Hands-on pair programming exercises make up the bulk of class time. Our students love the format, teachers, and experience!

So how is it "free"? Our tuition ranges from $1,500 - $2,000 (payment plans are available), depending on whether you take the program online or in-person. If you decide you love coding and continue on to one of our 9 partner bootcamps, you will receive a tuition credit of up to $1,500, effectively negating at least the majority of First Step Coding's tuition.

After taking this course, you will be able to:

• Solve common coding problems with JavaScript that are likely to appear in your projects and bootcamp interview questions.

• Approach problems with an engineering mindset and methods: deconstructing a problem, isolation, test-driven development, and debugging.

• Speak like a programmer and find answers to your questions. much more quickly by mastering the foundational terminology.

• Tap into a real API and manipulate real data with your code.

• Create an interactive text-based game that keeps a score.

• Rapidly learn related and more advanced coding topics that build on your foundation.

• Clearly understand your options for continuing your coding education by speaking with bootcamp veterans.

• Launch a live hosted web application using the techniques and tools you've learned!

I have been on the fence for a long time about whether to enroll in a coding bootcamp or not. FSC was the right choice for introducing me to coding in a guided and structured environment with real time feedback. I learned a good amount of beginner and intermediate JS, and started to better understand how to think like a programmer and understand what that discipline really entails on a day to day basis. Lastly, they are partnered with a number of prestigious immersive bootcamps, so if coding is for you, you can apply most of your tuition for FSC to a top tier coding bootcamp. If coding isn't for you, you can figure that out in a relatively short amount of time and for a minimal financial investment. Great intro course with friendly, knowledgeable instructors. Highly recommend.

As a Sales Rep in the Greater Boston Area, I’ve had a fair share of hands on experience with technical products and demonstrations in my field. So when it came time to make a switch to a more technical role, theres only so much you can teach yourself about coding from 101 websites or YouTube. Sure there are outstanding bootcamps in the area, but I wasn’t sure if that was something I was ready to invest full time or serioius money in. When I came across First Step Coding, their curriculum checked most if not all of the boxes on the job requirements I was interested in, so it was a no-brainer! Their instructors are experts in the vast amount of material covered in the course, and made themselves available after hours for questions with any assignments or topics. I’m confident having completed the course that it gave me the competitive edge adequate enough to establish myself as a technical sales rep and land a job in that field.

Starting the class with absolutely no coding experience prior, I'm very happy with how much I learned during the Intro to JavaScript Course. Kurt was really great at explaining the fundamentals thoroughly and at a pace that everyone in the class understood. So much help was offered during and after classroom time. The class size is ideal as well - everyone got to know each other and it was easy to discuss the problems they had with their own code while sticking to schedule. In my opinion, the best part of this course is the fact that it not only explains JavaScript fundamentals, but Kurt provided the resources and material to keep moving forward and learning more on your own, even if you don't plan on going to a bootcamp, etc. As somebody who plans on continuing my coding practices independently, this is a great asset. I highly recommend First Step Coding to anybody who wants to start coding confidently. It was a fantastic, incredibly helpful course taught by great people!

I am a 25-year old Solutions Architect who works with developers all day, but with no background in coding. I've been thinking about getting into coding for a while now, but I didn't want to commit financially to an immersive bootcamp, nor quit my full-time job. Most bootcamps also typically require some background in Javascript, and I didn't know how much of a background was needed, nor the best way to teach myself JS. After some researching, I found out about FSC's course which was significantly less than the typical $15K price tag, and only 4 weeks during after work hours. It was just the right amount for me to get my feet wet (and decide if coding is something I want to make a career of ) while still being able to maintain my full time job. After finishing the course, I have since been able to talk to my developer co-workers about their code...and it feels great. I really learned a lot in this course and cannot recommend it highly enough!
