Not surprisingly, the Embarcadero is where one embarks. It is filled with restaurants, farmers’ markets, and sidewalk strollers out enjoying the day. As its name suggests, the Embarcadero boasts many forms of transportation, from ships to railways to bikers, all perfect vehicles to learn the art of panning. (Sorry for the pun.) You too can embark on a fun, exciting adventure with your Digital Photo Academy instructor as you photograph the Embarcadero.
You will photograph everything from the architecture to the characters walking down the street to the palm trees lining the sidewalks. It can be overwhelming to try to capture so many different elements and details separately or in one integrated image, but your instructor will give you the tools you need to confidently capture the dizzying scene in a dynamic way or separate each component for another kind of impression of tranquility and simplicity.
During the shoot, you will learn the secrets of the trade from the DPA professional photographer and new compositional techniques such as how to bring out the colors in nature and architecture, approach strangers for their photograph, and use light and shadow to highlight certain details in your subjects.
Your DPA instructor will walk the area with you, all the while conveying the concepts of composition and camera operation to help you approach this fascinating area in a way that will help you access your creative point of view and enhance the wonderful light.
We will meet outside of Boulette’s Larder located at 1 Ferry Building #48, San Francisco, CA 94111 next to the Ferry Plaza.
Please bring your DSLR or another type of camera that you use, a fully-charged battery, and the equipment that you can carry. You should dress for the weather, wear comfortable walking shoes, and carry a bottle of water.
Each Composition in the Field class begins with a talk with one of our experienced instructors, and then you and your fellow students take a stroll through one of a variety of photogenic locales (in any of the 20+ cities the DPA encapsulates). There is street photography, magnificent interiors, farmers markets, zoos, landscapes, and more, photos of which are included within. These photos are a mix of student and instructor images in many different venues and cities across the United States and Canada.
You will have fun in the three hour session, learn to shoot strategically, get more interesting photos of the event, and walk away with a foundation to improve your photographs in the future, whether you’re traveling, or at a birthday party and everywhere in between.
Please note – if a class must be cancelled due to weather or other circumstances beyond our control we will be happy to work with you to reschedule. If you should need to cancel and require a new class date, contact us. A $25 transfer fee will be imposed without a 3 day notice before the scheduled class.
