Storytelling/Solo Performance Using Movement & Gesture

In this workshop, students will learn about the five facets of performance structure important to engaging audiences, creating memorable performances, and improving spontaniety:

1. use and command of space
2. physicality
3. manipulation of voice
4. props as story characters
5. coloring of words 

Through hands on exercises and a sampling from attendees’ stories, attendees will learn how to use these tools to create character, a sense of place and time, and enhance performer connection with the audience Students are requested to come with a 5-10 minute rehearsed narrative they wish to work on during class.

On the second day, students will have the opportunities to implement instruction from the first day, to create a kinetic performance that will resonate with their audiences. Participants should come dressed to move! Elaine Muray has performed nationally and internationally, integrating movement and narration in her unique renditions of folktales and personal stories.

The majority of her work has been directed by Synetic Theater's artistic director, Paata Tsikurishvili.
