Jade Scarlett

I took Jade Scarlett's painted mandala class in January, a perfect month for doing something special for myself. She gave a materials list that set you up for success in future mandala projects. I enjoyed her method of teaching, and sharing her ideas, and projects. She made sure everyone succeeded.

I loved the Virtual Intermediate Watercolor Florals class with Jade! You do not have to be an "expert" as Jade walks you through everything step by step and my end product was beautiful! I really like that this class gives you more actual painting time than most of the "beginner" classes where they spend a lot of time going over the basics. Jade is an amazing teacher and I credit her for helping me to fall in love with watercolor painting during the pandemic. I look forward to taking this class again!

This is the second class I have taken with Jade. She is so talented and explains the process in detail and answering any questions a student has. A very relaxing class, thr 2 hours flew by! Awaiting her email with so I can show her my work!

I took this class on a lark as I hadn’t tried hand-loom weaving. It was fun, and the instructor took all the time we needed to figure things out. I now have a cute wall-hanging that I made myself. And I have materials and ideas for more fun projects. I would recommend this course to anyone who’d like a new hobby that doesn’t require a lot of expense or major equipment. It can be done in relatively brief segments of time and is a relaxing activity.

Jade was such a helpful and patient instructor!

Jade has a little different method than I have seen in other art classes. She just gets right to it. There is some opening conversation and explanation and then she starts teaching and demonstrating how to do the techniques needed to do the piece we are working on. I have had to put my brush down a number of times and take notes to remember some of the information. Love it!

Class was very good. The instructor is excellent and provided advance information so that you could be prepared to paint early on. It is very fast paced and tough to keep up unless you have some previous experience. The instructor provided lots of information about watercolors and painting techniques. Worth taking.

Jade was really great. She walked us through every step clearly, checked in on us for any questions, and had a really welcoming/encouraging personality. Yesterday was my first ever water color class and I haven’t been able to put my paint brush down today!

It helped to have some previous experience in using watercolor and color theory, but the instructor did an excellent job of presenting alot of information in short period of time. I will take another course with her.

I loved the class! I will definitely take another class. The only reason that I did not give it 5 stars was it was just a little too fast. There were several times where I completely missed the color mixture and/or painting of a specific area (behind the fence). A couple of times I paused to blow dry my paper and when I came back to screen, I had missed several steps. There should be a little more interaction to make sure you haven’t been left in the dust. Also, there were several instances where I ran out of my color in the middle of painting something...as a beginners class I needed a little more direction in that regard. I am happy we are getting a recording so that I can try it again at my own pace! Thank you!

Jade was a wonderful inspiring instructor for my first ever embroidery class. She paced the class just right for us to learn the basics and I finished the program feeling ready to work on my sampler alone. She also added to the experience with helpful tips and links to more materials and instructions for us to access. Jade got me excited about starting a new craft.

A very enjoyable and challenging class!

This class was definitely worthwhile. It was actually AWESOME!!! The instructor was extremely knowledgable and taught me different weaving techniques that I was really interested in. She took her time and we worked together, answered my questions, gave me great information and "tips" and it was completely enjoyable. Her timing was perfect, not too fast or slow. I would recommend anyone to take a class with her. She was one of the best instructors I have had yet, either in person or virtual!

Jade is very positive, encouraging and enthusiastic about art. I learned some simple techniques and lots of useful info. A fun opportunity to explore some interesting possibilities for watercolour.

Jade was very friendly and it was a very nice relaxing class. Definitely buy the supplies that she recommends, I didn't have the correct stencil she was using because I didn't buy what she recommended, I had already bought a different kit, but I was still able to following along and do what she was doing. Overall, it was a very nice class.

Lots of good information. Important for those who want to try their hands at painting outside of class. More theory than creativity. Don’t expect a pretty picture at the end of this class, but you will come away with valuable tools to use.

Wonderful beginner's class on water colors. Not having the picture before the class I felt rushed during the class. I had a hard time getting some of the perspectives correct in my drawing. Mixing paints and having enough of the paints ready at the time I needed them was difficult. I felt like I was rushing to keep up to the directions. The finished product was OK but I can see a lot I would like to change. I also liked a few things in the painting. Water color painting is difficult. A simpler painting might have been easier to do. I did enjoy the class and would do another one.

This is the second class I have taken with Jade. She is very sweet and a good teacher. My only comment is it might be helpful to start with mixing some of the paints in the beginning as I find as you get more involved trying to keep up with drawing and mixing paints it gets a little complicated and I lose my focus. Even to have a few basics on the color wheel ( might suggest thats a tool everyone should purchase) prepared.

Sooooo much fun! Our instructor Jade Scarlett was enthusiastic, warm and a good instructor who broke the process down in easy to understand portions. The best part was that no matter what level you were at, you could make something that looked pretty darn good! Relaxing and fun way to spend a few hours on a Sunday. I had taken a water color class with Jade and plan to take other classes with her in the future.

TOP teaching with clear explanations and demonstration. Step-by-step approach with the goal of ending in success. Learned MUCH!

No fault of the instructor,—because the 1st Saturday class was changed to Sunday, that stuck in my mind and I missed the 2nd class—thinking it would be Sunday as well. Although Jade made it clear it would be the following Saturday. But I was tuning in from out of town, so everything was a little thrown off for me. Anyway, I missed the second class. The instructor was great and very enthusiastic. We learned a wide variety of watercolor techniques and it was nice to be able to put them into practice with the flower project. There were times where she did move a little bit fast and it was hard to follow along at her pace. We would have appreciated more interaction between the instructor and the students (more checking in with students, asking questions, etc.).

The instructor was excellent. A lot of fun and very informative

the class was not what i was expecting & i was disappointed. i was expecting & looking for something more focused on ‘creative’ & ‘artsy’. the zoom link sent in the booking email response was incorrect. the instructor sent an email out to participants with the correct zoom link. luckily a friend of mine was also attending & forwarded me the email as my email address was incorrect and the email was never received. some of the video was out of focus once the meeting began. class was much too focused on writing/faux calligraphy for my needs as i have practiced calligraphy for years. also, i sent an email on tuesday regarding the misleading & unusable discounts that i’d been offered. to date, still no reply. i would appreciate an account credit to use toward another class more in line with my expectations.

The course did not fit the course description. I thought it was about journaling (writing) and it was on making a journal book.

Instructor was unprepared. Class was 8 mins. late starting. Link sent in 2/5 email didn’t work. I was expecting more creative art journaling using images & mixed media & not lettering. Simple and easy to understand EV

Fantastic class! I wish it were for three or four days, not just two! You won’t regret taking this, Jade has a calming presence and is a fantastic instructor.

This class was great! Jade is a wonderful teacher. I learned quite a bit in a very short amount of time. I’ll be taking this again.

Most of the students were not prepared to start at the beginning of class, because of lack of prep work from you. They didnt have the sketch of the painting, because they didnt receive it from you as a reminder. I even sent several emails myself looking for those things with no response. It was also difficult for some to log in. So I would say a reminder with all the things needed for class should be sent out the day before. I know I signed up for the class a month in advance, and that meant I needed to go back through a lot of emails to find what was needed for my class.

Jade was very good about explaining exactly what colors she was mixing and what brushes and techniques she was using so we could mimic her picture. I learned to use more water than I was used to to get colors for distant items. It was very helpful.

It was really great! Jade demonstrated everything very well and was super helpful with any questions we had. A really fun afternoon!

It was extremely helpful to have the first part of the class practicing using the brushes in different ways, using salt, toothpicks, and other tools. It was great to be able to create our wreath using those techniques.

What a wonderful class! I learned so much in just a few short hours! I have taken many art courses with Coursehorse and although all my teachers have been great, Jade is by far the best. She integrates skills and concepts seamlessly into her classes and differentiates her instruction so that students of all levels learn skills appropriate for them. By the end of this class, well- all her classes- you will have not only a beautiful product, but a greater understanding of watercolor painting no matter what level you started with!

Overall I enjoyed the class. The instructor was nice, but went very slow with her beginning tutorials. I think it would’ve been helpful if the instructor showed everyone an example of what they would be painting first.

Jade was very conversational, very open for questions and different ways of explaining things that folks were struggling with. I've read some color books and taken a couple other "courses" but this was the best.

I wish instructor had utilized and incorporated ALL the materials recommended. Total cost of recommended course materials was $61.88. Watercolor Paper Pad was not used. Only one brush was used out of pkg of 6. The purpose for the different sized brushes was not discussed. Jade was enthusiastic and clearly enjoys and is knowledgeable about her craft, however, as beginner I mentally disconnected after the first hour and wondered why purchased some purchased materials were unaddressed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this class with Jade. Her excitement on the topic is contagious and I only wish the class was a little longer. She's clear in explaining the terminology, the ways to mix colors and addresses any question you may have. Plus you get to play with it making pretty colors yourself!

Jade is a great teacher and very personable! I learned a lot in 2 hours and have already been practicing my letters all day. She made the class fun and interesting and I’m looking forward to taking the Intermediate class soon! So happy I found this class!

Would have been better to get the handouts ahead to review and formulate questions. As well as practice paper (to imitate instructor during class— I had to make an imperfect one on the spot). After registering, I received an email that you will send me an access code later. Never received that but accessed by signing in thru website.

Great course. Jade is a wonderful teacher. She answers all you questions and sends plent of material to back up and support your work. My only suggestion is that she make this a multisession class. One session for strokes and lower case letters. One for uppercase letters, and one for connecting stokes and activities. I’d be willing to pay more and I am sure many others would be also.

The teacher, Jade Scarlet, is lovely. She’s a very good instructor and a great artist. She offers helpful tips the whole time she is teaching. And she is happy to answer questions. I would highly recommend her class, especially to beginners.

After the class was over I can honestly say that it was intense but I was very pleased with Jade and my work. I should have chosen an easier project for my first attempt with watercolors. The instructor started at the most basic level and then added new levels. At the end of two hours, I was comfortable with the basic understanding of calligraphy. Love the class as an introductory class on colors. May be best if it was split into two sessions with homework for us to share our own mixing and doing show and tell afterwards. Lots of information and practice one needs with color mixing. Maybe also time in between. Maybe more like an advance color mixing class, provided we do the homework and read the recommended books? It was fun!!

It’s obvious by Jades’s enthusiasm that she loves watercolor and she wants others to enjoy painting and be more knowledgeable when creating a palette for our compositions. This was very interesting and I came up with some flowers that looked ok but I needed round brushes that come to a point to do the leaves and petals. I didn’t have any. I wish the supply list had beef specific about that. Since I already had brushes I didn’t buy the recommended set but would have if I’d known the pointed brush was needed instead of flattish ones.

I thought the class was paced appropriately. Jade led us step by step through various painting techniques that allowed me to put the elements together to create the wreath. I am delighted with the process and tried daffodils today. Thank you.

I couldn’t join the class because I didn’t have any scrap fabric to practice the embroidery on! I was going to borrow some from my neighbor but she was out of town. It was too late to cancel at that point! I live Brooklyn, NY where one doesn’t readily have a joanne’s Fabric or fabric store near by unless on goes near midtown Minhattan.

I absolutely love this class....Jade is so enthusiastic about her art it makes it so much easier to try new things. Her drawing instruction is wonderful, as is her watercolor lessons. I have never tried watercolor before and she shows you ways to do it well even for a beginner. The only thing I had trouble with is getting the required drawings for the class before hand. I have attended 2 or 3 times and never seem to have the right drawing in order to paint it that day. This could be my fault by not understanding the process. Otherwise the classes are quite good and I have learned a lot. She makes it fun too!

I really enjoyed taking this class. I have done watercolor on my own and this was my first with an instructor. After going over some basic techniques, I was able to follow along with the instructor and produce a piece I was really proud of. I also liked that she was able to give me feedback in real time. I would definitely take a similiar class again.

I loved this class!!! This is the third class I’ve taken with Jade, she is a great teacher. Super patient and she walks you through everything step by step. I’ve always loved painting flowers and this class did not disappoint. The end results are amazing!! The focus is on having fun, being creative, and learning some really good tips along the way. She has inspired me to keep at it and focus on the joy painting brings you. For $25 a class, it’s cheaper than dinner and a movie used to be, so no reason not to do this once a week! Thank you course horse and Jade!!!

Enjoyed the instructor very much! She was clear, demonstrated the strokes well, and was easy to follow. I'd like to see a follow-up class or a session 2. The material is not difficult but requires practice. A second class, perhaps the next day, would give us a chance to practice more and continue to move through all the course material.

My only complaint is that the instructor moved somewhat quickly, but ultimately that was ok. There was a lot of material to cover and I do appreciate that we covered so much. I can take time to practice outside of class. I appreciated the many techniques, especially about composition. I particularly liked that we did more than just a flower.

Jade has a very personable manner. She makes calligraphy seem doable, and helps you feel confident in giving it a try and not getting hung up on mistakes. She encourages her students to experiment and to work on developing their own styles. She provides lots of practice materials for after the class.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the class because it’s virtual, and at this point we all have a lot of screen fatigue. But this class was super fun and relaxing! I would highly recommend it! It reminded me of other painting work I’ve done and inspired me to do it again. It was easy to follow and I made something pretty by following the instructions. It’s hard to keep up in the video class because the teacher can’t see our work but she was very nice, I’m sure she would go back if I said anything. It was also fun doing it with a friend, we texted during class and sent photos of our progress.

The instructor was very kind and thorough and gave a lot of tips and tricks to use beyond the class. She's very passionate about water colors and it was so nice to see. I'.m now a new fan of using watercolor paints! It does create very beautiful paintings.

The teacher is super high energy and charming. I really enjoyed what I learned. I just wanted more time to work on the flowers and bouquet. We spent a lot of time on technique and on how to use the paints, which is valuable but we only had two hours, and I really wanted to have enough time to play.

This was my second class with Jade Scarlett and she is a fantastic teacher! You can easily feel her passion for all things creative through her excitement for the class. Jade is a good teacher and very enthusiastic. I was helping a beginning watercolorist with my supplies, and based on the description, we thought it would be taught mainly on hard pans, although I have both hard pans and watercolors in tubes. It would have been very helpful to have been told to set up a palette ahead of time as we were rushing to mix and squeeze multiple colors while Jade began demonstrating techniques. (We were not able to mix the hard pans to the various consistencies (cream, milk, etc.) quickly enough to keep up.) However, by the end much excellent learning had taken place and the result was quite satisfying. I think all of Jade's post-class resources combined with being able to review the demonstration will make a big difference in feeling like one is caught up. I recommend this class!

I messed up and was an hour late. So I missed some of the information, but I was still able to keep up as she did explained all as she moved forward. I enjoyed it and only wish I could have joined everyone today. Maybe next Saturday!!

Scarlett was enthusiastic, personable, patient, and explained each letter stroke slowly. There are many virtual calligraphy classes these days, but I'm so glad I took Scarlett's class. It was very informative, great technique, I learned a lot. I would take it again, or another watercolor class. Only 'negative' thing, I was told there would be a follow up email of some PDF's supporting the class but I did not get anything. Checked junk mail - not there either. Would like to get those.

While I enjoyed painting a wreath. That is not the image I was shown when I signed up for the class. The image was a tropical flower. I wanted to paint that. I wish the teachers palette was also on display so we could see what she was doing there. Also the supply list was not accurate.

Calligraphy is a difficult art and takes daily practice but scarlet was very encouraging and very efficient. I feel like I’m off to a good start.

She was pretty thorough . I leaned the basics. although some people liked her enthousiasm, I did not but it did not stop her from teaching the skills.

I enjoyed the Calligraphy class. It was very comprehensive and there were no lags during the 2 hours. The teacher was extremely well prepared and very likable. My only suggestion would be to include pauses or moments during the instruction for practice. Although with the amount of content covered, this might not be easily achieved. I learned a lot, but this skill requires practice. However, I just took the course yesterday and I have already used what I learned to write a title in my weekly planner. This is a sign of a well taught course.

Scarlet is an enthusiastic ambassador for the joy of painting. She is knowledgeable and is generous with extra practice ideas and offers of help through e-mail contact after the class. This is my second time taking this class. I like the first one but I was too busy trying to do some of the techniques and fixing mistakes so it was hard to keep up and do all she was teaching. I made more progress this time, however my only concern is that the pace of the class during the final project is still too fast for some beginners, could use some catch pauses. Most beginners don’t have to skill to work at the pace that a pro like Scarlett can do. Otherwise, I recommend just painting with Scarlett and learning what one can; trying to make the final project look good caused some stress, rather than just painting and doing the best I can, as Scarlett said, to enjoy the elating experience of painting.

The teacher was very knowledgeable, patient and encouraging.I learned some new techniques that I am eager to experiment with. I am looking forward to receiving the additional practice materials that she said she would make available to us. I would definitely recommend this class.

I signed up for a class to paint a single red flower, so I was very disappointed to see the class I was in was to paint a wreath. I clicked on the FB link to enroll in the class, based on the picture of the red flower. Overall, the class was quite informative and the teacher gave clear demonstrations and examples.

I enjoyed it. First time taking a hands on class like this.

Although fast paced for a newbie I loved that the instructor jumped right in an had us painting immediately. By focusing on the techniques for a few flowers I felt like I got to understand water in a controlled structure space. It allowed me to get a feel for a new medium without being overwhelmed. She is charming and fun and made 2 hours on Zoom seem like nothing!

Friendly, thorough, explained the process well as we worked together. Allowed time for questions and sharing. Great class worksheets, and fantastic follow up packet.

I have to admit that at first I was doubtful about a zoom conducted calligraphy course. I'm so glad that I took a chance and signed up for the course...it was so much fun! The instructor was very good/helpful. I definitely will be taking the next level course

A very good class, with much useful information about brush techniques, amounts of water to use to achieve various effects, how to draw and shade with water colors, etc. Jada is an experienced, knowledgeable teacher. It was educational as well as pleasant, relaxing at times, to paint alongside Jada. I have found this to be one of the biggest benefits of a group class; the pleasure and motivation, sometimes feeling engrossed while working quietly alongside other painters. The only reason I gave this course 4 stars is because some parts of the course went too quickly, hard to keep up with Jada when working on some of the flowers and especially the wreath. That was a bit frustrating. However, I chalk this issue up to the limits of on-line group instruction, not to the instructor.

This was our second class with Jade. Her enthusiasm is infectious. Her instructions are clear and easy to follow even in the zoom format. We will be back for another class with Jade!

It was a little fast and all over the place, but I was able to follow and I learned some new things! I loved the instructor. I just think there could've been a bit more organization. Four stars!

It was just ok. The teacher wasn’t very engaging, and maybe this type of course doesn’t call for a lot of interaction, but I found myself bored and looking at my watch an hour into the class. (One person actually left halfway through!) I think Jade tried to cram a lot of info in to two hours, and she was scrambling at the end to try to fit everything in. Finally, and less importantly, she asked us to buy all of these things for class, and I did. In reality, all we needed were pens and her printouts.

You were delightful, It was perfect!!! I took a watercolor course last year and of course I did not remember anything but one thing I know for sure is you made me realize that I need to keep up with it!! One thing I think would be helpful is to show us the best way to set up the colors and some basics on primary colors and secondary colors and the best way to mix colors. I am not even sure how to properly use my white plastic palette with all the small squares and the larger ones as at one point I think I start mixing too many colors !!! Anyway you were traffic, the price is right and I would take more classes and even repeat this one to get some of the techniques down. PS I am a wedding planner and work with many stationers for water color etc so I have a total appreciation of the work you do!! The PDF files you sent are very helpful and I am going to practice!! I thought the class was generally very good and loved that the instructor included an extensive PDF with all of the info from the class afterwards. But for someone who has literally never picked up a paintbrush before, I wish the instructor had gone a little more slowly to explain all that she was doing and gave us a chance to practice. I would have preferred to learn fewer techniques well than trying to do too many. I would take the class again but would suggest slowing it down a bit. Thanks!

This is exactly what I expected. It was a good taste of brush calligraphy and lets me know that I can do this. I loved your emphasis on the basic components of letters. As a handwriting expert (forensic), my analyses are based on the movements within the letters and not necessarily the letters themselves.
