Sam Feder

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Sam is a multidisciplinary artist currently working in film and video exploring interpersonal power dynamics and the politics of media-driven identity. Currently, Sam is in post-production on the portrait film, Kate Bornstein is a Queer & Pleasant Danger. Sam's award-winning first feature film, Boy I Am, is in distribution with Women Make Movies and continues to screen worldwide. With a prestigious fellowship from the Ellen Stone Belic Institute for the Study of Women & Gender in the Arts & Media, Sam began working on the film When the Dust Settles – portraits of four Transwomen changing the world (in-progress). Sam's work has received support from national grants such as the Frameline Completion Fund, Crossroads Foundation, Funding Exchange, Astraea Foundation for Social Justice, Illinois Arts Council Grant, and The Community Arts Assistance Program Grant. For the summer of 2013, Sam has been invited to be an artist in resident at Yaddo and The MacDowell Colony. Sam is a professor at Hunter College in the Film and Media Department and at the New School in Media Studies graduate program.
