Rafael Khachaturian

Teaches at Brooklyn Institute for Social Research

Rafael Khachaturian received a Ph.D. in political science from Indiana University in 2017, and also holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in political theory from The New School. His research and teaching interests include modern and contemporary political thought, critical social theory, democratic theory, and the history of the social sciences. Rafael’s current work explores the relationship between the discipline of political science, theories of the state, and the politics of liberalism and crisis in the context of the postwar political order. 

His scholarly articles have appeared in journals such as Polity, Contemporary Political Theory, and Political Research Quarterly, and his public writing has been published in outlets such as Dissent, Jacobin, and Logos. Rafael is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Andrea Mitchell Center for the Study of Democracy at the University of Pennsylvania.
