Featuring Japanese-inspired works by artists from all over the world, RESOBOX is a Japanese cultural center dedicated to sharing and celebrating Japanese influence in the arts. Our workshops, cafe, gallery and event space allow us to celebrate Japanese culture in many ways.

RESOBOX is the name created from a mashup of the words Resonate and Box. This Resonating Box envisions a space where artists can meet and collaborate to create new and innovative arts. The space within this Box Resonates, too, shaking up everything inside.

The concept of RESOBOX was originally created in August 2009 as a personal art project by Fumio Tashiro – New York composer, bassist and videographer.

We offer classes in Japanese-inspired dance, ink painting, cosplay and prop-making, martial arts and more. With drawing and dance classes just for kids and classes in Karate, Iaido and Jodo, we have something for everyone.

Visitors can enjoy art inspired by Japanese culture in our gallery. Featuring artists from near and far, we display new artwork monthly. We are open to artists of any age, race or nationality, provided that they somehow incorporate Japanese ideas, culture or philosophy into their work through the creation of something that didn’t exist before.

RESOBOX is a place where people who are conversant with, dedicated to, and influenced by Japanese arts can gather to create innovative arts through the collaborative process and disseminate them to the world. Join us!

Accessibility: The Long Island City location is fully wheelchair accessible.

The instructor individualized the class to my specific interests and experience and helped me understand how to create an Ikebana-inspired floral arrangement I can use again and again. I look forward to taking another session of this program!

The instructor was very patient with me. She was an elderly woman was so passionate about the Japanese painting class. I love how she spoke about Japan where she is from. I asked her a question about Japanese stamp that she put onto my drawing & she explained that the meaning meant happy. I enjoyed this course very much.

It was great. The instructor gave us the philosophy and basic tenets behind the arrangement first and explained everything with logic. I think I made a pretty good arrangement thnx to her ! The only thing I would add is if we can be told exactly how many flowers we should get beforehand, that will help. (For context - I used 4 flowers and some greens)

Very nice experience, pleasant and informative teacher. Giving 4 starts because the class was listed as 2 hrs but took only one hour - seems misleading. Then they turned on music and people started chatting. I wasn’t there to meet people so left early. Was expecting 2 hrs of instruction for the $.
