The Character Design course leads you step-by-step through the character creation process. This course emphasizes the fundamentals of gesture drawing, anatomy, shape design, storytelling, and perspective. With these foundational skills, students then move on experimenting with various body types and silhouettes to develop distinct and memorable characters.
The Ashcan Character Design curriculum is designed to have our students grasp a solid understanding of the figure. Lectures emphasize the proper structure of proportions, understanding anatomy, character expression, perspective, character angles, and clothing. Students undergo a curriculum built on all the necessary skills for character design in animation, games, graphic novels, and live action film. This class simulates a professional character development pipeline from start to finish, with students fully developing two to five characters of their own.
