Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this wine class:

If you've been looking to learn more about wine, look no further!

We’ll begin with learning how to taste wine in proper fashion and then delve into the individual varieties. We’ll discuss prominent characteristics, a little history, build your wine vocabulary and basic wine appreciation tips. My goal is to help you learn what you like and why in order to help you calibrate your palate as you embark on this life long adventure called wine.

This is intended to be an entry-level course and no experience is required. There are no wrong answers or stupid questions and the goal is to learn in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Participants will have the option to taste along with the instructor, get and give live feedback and ask any questions from the comfort of your living room!

About the Instructor:

I have an extensive background in the service/hospitality industry that has allowed me to develop a bountiful set of skills pertaining to wine, spirits and cuisines from around the world. I love learning and sharing what I've learned with those with the same passion for exploring the delights of the epicurean world!

Materials You'll Need to Fully Participate:

If you are ordering alcohol online, we recommend Drizly.com.

Wines we'll be exploring:

The most important part in buying wine to participate is to get wine from the same region as the ones listed above, even if that’s not possible, the same type of wine (i.e. Chardonnay) will be fine because we can discuss differences and learn even more!

If you can not / do not want to purchase these wines, you are welcome to bring any wine you have and there will still be plenty to learn!

Virtual Class FAQ

What will be included in my Virtual Class package?

One ticket includes an access link to your live, online class. The class will be delivered via web conferencing software and feature a live, professional instructor who will walk you through a lesson as described above. You will have the opportunity to ask questions as well as participate from home.

How many people is my purchase good for?

Each ticket is good for one "device" (i.e. one computer, phone, tablet, etc. you'll be logging in from). This ensures we don't get more people in the class than the instructor can handle. Though we understand some people live together and will be working/learning together, the intent is that each class still allows for the same attention to attendees as if students purchased separately. Please be respectful of this!

Will I need anything from home to use in the class?
You will need a reliable Internet connection as well as a computer or device with which you can access your virtual class. We recommend you arrive to class 5-10 minutes early to ensure you're able to set up your device and connection. Additionally, if the class is more than just a lecture you will likely want any materials listed in the course description as "Materials Needed to Participate Fully", though you're welcome to purchase a seat and sit in and just watch.

Am I able to ask questions or interact with the class?
Yes, you'll both be able to ask questions using the chat function in the video hosting software as well as at certain intervals during the class via voice/audio. If the class winds up being on the smaller side, more spontaneous interaction/questions will be encouraged.

Do I have to show my video or speak during class?

While we recommend you do show your video and speak when encouraged to by the instructor, video and audio participation are never mandatory. We find classes have more fun experiences when people are engaging with one another, but understand not everyone will want to do so and that's ok!

Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.

Refund Policy

Students may cancel at any time before the day of the class and receive a full refund less 5% cancellation fee.

The class was really fun. Instructor did nice job of making it interactive. Too much time spent on first wine and class went over the time limit so needed better pacing.

It was so much fun. Learned a lot especially about the initial wine experience. Twirling, smelling, tasting on roof of your mouth. It really makes a difference. Great selection on wines to learn from that were reasonable in price. Christi was knowledgeable and personable. She kept everyone involved and answered all our questions. Definitely would recommend. We did it with family and friends across the country. A great virtual “get together”.

Question from Douglas L.
Are you expected to have the wine available mentioned or any wine since it is an online course?
Answer from anonymous
The best way to enjoy the experience is to have the suggested wines. The most important part is to have the varietal (i.e. Cabernet) and to try to find one from the mentioned region (i.e. California). This is a very interactive experience and the more you can participate, the more fun! You are welcome to bring whichever wines you like, but the learning experience is enhanced with the wines mentioned.

Question from Laurel M.
Do we purchase all of the wines listed for the one (next) class date of July 18 or is that a comprehensive list, meant for the entire list of dates? And, therefore, is each class the same, or is there a build, with different wines for each date?
Answer from Christi Davis, i.
Each Wine 101 class is the same. The wines listed on the registration page are the suggested wines that the instructor covers in the 101 class. It is up to the student to purchase the wines. While it is not required to have the wines, it does help with the learning process and with the style the class is taught.
