Château Margaux is considered the most elegant and sensual of the first growths. Its haunting perfume and incredible balance of power and finesse are nothing short of amazing. The Château has a long history dating to the 12th century when it was known as “La Mothe de Margaux”; although no vines were planted at that time. By the end of the 17th century, Château Margaux covered 265 hectares (654 acres), a third of which was devoted to vine growing; this is how the estate still stands today. This Château has seen its highest highs since it was purchased in 1977 by André Mentzelopoulos, the “Greek in the Médoc”; his love for Château Margaux helped put it back in its rightful place at the top. When André died in 1980 his daughter Corinne took over. The quintessential fist in the velvet glove, Château Margaux displays opulence and power balanced by elegance and finesse. The signature fragrance of ripe black currants, spicy vanilla and violets is so enticing in a top example of Château Margaux it's truly one of the greatest bouquets in fine wine.
