What you'll learn in this sculpture class:

Taught by Gianluca Giarrizzo, an experienced sculptor and anatomist, this online course will take students through sculpting an actual size self-portrait in clay, beginning with an anatomically correct block-in of the primary and secondary volumes of the head, and advancing to a more specific likeness of oneself, through meticulous observation and measuring techniques.

Important proportions of the skull, major planar structure, bony landmarks, and superficial anatomy will be discussed by the instructor. The use of mirrors, photos, and caliper measurements will enable the student to capture an accurate representation of themselves in three dimensions.

Here are the supplies necessary:

  • #403A Serrated Ribbon Modeling Tool - approx. 10”
  • 8” Aluminum Calipers
  • 2lb x 7 Blocks Oil-Based Clay (14 lbs total, Chavant - Le Beau Touche)
  • 20” Head Armature

Students will need to purchase their own materials for this course.

Students that already own specific items in the kits may choose to purchase the remaining items they need individually.
