Noah Buchanan

Teaches at Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art

The artist is represented by John Pence gallery in San Francisco and artists’ house gallery in Philadelphia. He teaches painting and drawing at colleges in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as in New York City. He is considered a premier instructor of figure drawing, figure painting and anatomy for the artist. Noah Buchanan has exhibited widely in New York, Pennsylvania and California; internationally in London and Aberdeen. His paintings and drawings are featured in private and public collections throughout the United States. Buchanan recently contributed a painting to the Lucasfilm project star wars art: visions, a book of artwork inspired by Star Wars. His painting for that project is in the Lucasfilm collection of art. In 2008 the artist completed a grand scale commission for the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, WI, a newly constructed cathedral, in which the artist created 2 original 11′ altar paintings. Noah has received a number of awards and grants; the Stobart foundation grant, The Posey Foundation Award, The Stacey Award, the Sugarman award and most recently the Fellowship of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Award of Excellence. He began his artistic studies in 1994 at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts where he studied classical painting and drawing as well as extensive studies in human anatomy. In 2002, he received a Masters of Fine Arts from the New York Art, where he studied closely with Martha Erlebacher, Steven Assael, and the renowned anatomist Frank Porcu.
