This course is intended to introduce you to the game of Chess through a comprehensive exploration of the games’ basics, as well as, beginner and advanced beginner strategies and tactics. The game of Chess will be used as a platform, springboard, and framework to develop and increase your qualitative and quantitative reasoning skills, critical thinking/analysis, verbal reasoning and analytical writing.
You’ll not only study and investigate the game, but you will also learn the phases and stages of the game’s development and history, as well as its impact on contemporary society and modern history. The Chessboard and the pieces will serve as a lens to comparatively study community and behavior. Study of the Chess Board and Algebraic Chess notation are integrated into the course in a way that reinforce Algebra 1 and Coordinate Geometry standards and concepts.
For kids and adults ages 8 and up! Parents and their kids are welcome to enroll in the class together.
Kids attending the class alone are required to complete the Kid's College release form.
IMPORTANT: For campus/in-person classes, vaccination proof and masking in classrooms is required for adult and kid students and staff.
