Learn to sculpt in stone like the Renaissance masters! The process of carving stone with hand chisels and mallet is an extremely satisfying ancient art form. It is a medium that develops manual dexterity and craftsmanship with a high degree of mental and perceptual stimulation.
We are pleased to offer instruction for all skill levels. Learn to see what naturally emerges from the stone and how to carve your vision into reality. Options for carving include: drawings, relief carving, and carving in-the-round. You will learn how to finish the stone to a shiny polish, and/or create unique textures.
Our instructor will help you design your stone sculpture, and teach you how to remove material using hand tools like rasps, files, and chisels. After your sculpture emerges from the stone you will learn how to polish it.
Much of our ancient history is carved in stone and we still believe that stone is absolutely relevant for sculpture during this digital age. Won’t you join us?
